چکیده

Background Severe right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) is an important prognostic parameter in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). The relationship between myocardial fibrosis of the left ventricle (LV) and particularly the septum and right ventricular (RV) function remains poorly understood. We sought to investigate this relationship in a large cohort of DCM patients using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR).

The value of myocardial perfusion imaging in differentiating between idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy from the ischemic form [Persian]

Introduction: Differentiating between ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM) is important as coronary revascularization can improve prognosis in the ischemic subgroup. Due to inherent problems of coronary angiography in patients with depressed ejection fraction (EF) introducing a noninvasive tool to diagnose those who will benefit from angiography seems...

Bio-imaging: late gadolinium enhancement in dilated cardiomyopathy and its relation to novel biomarkers of fibrosis and remodeling

Background Focal myocardial fibrosis is frequently observed in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and predicts future major adverse cardiovascular events and patient outcome. However, the pathogenesis of fibrosis in DCM remains poorly understood. Novel serum biomarkers of fibrosis such as Endoglin have been recently identified as a trigger of myocardial fibrosis in heart failure. Accordingly, we soug...

High prevalence of atrial fibrosis in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy.

OBJECTIVES We examined the extent of fibrotic changes in the left atrium of cardiomyopathic human hearts and investigated the relation of mechanical overload caused by left ventricular dysfunction to fibrosis of the left atrium. BACKGROUND Left atrial dysfunction in dilated cardiomyopathy may contribute to progression of heart failure. In contrast to fibrosis of the left ventricle, atrial fib...

Definition and Classification The cardiomyopathies are a diverse group of myocardial diseases that are characterized by chronic ventricular dysfunction. The clinical classification of cardiomyopathy is based on hemodynamic and echocardiographic abnormalities, and consists of dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and restrictive cardiomyopathy. Recently, arrhythmogenic right ventr...

Focal myocardial fibrosis assessed by late gadolinium enhancement cardiovascular magnetic resonance in children and adolescents with dilated cardiomyopathy

BACKGROUND Different patterns of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) including mid-wall fibrosis using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) have been reported in adult patients presenting with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). In these studies, LGE was associated with pronounced LV remodelling and predicted adverse cardiac outcomes. Accordingly, the purpose of our study was to determi...
